Stuart Burrough: Veterinarian BVSc., MACVSc
Stuart graduated from Massey University in 1982 and established The Vet Centre together with Peter Anderson and Peter Jerram in 1998. Stuart is a small animal Practitioner and became a member of the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists by passing the Membership exams in small animal medicine in 1996. In 2000 he was selected to spend 3 months at the University of Florida as a Practitioner in Residence, assisting teaching of final year students, as well as gaining valuable experience. While in the USA, he also trained and became certified in the PennHIP technique of assessing dogs for hip dysplasia becoming the third New Zealand PennHip certified vet. He also has interests in orthopaedic surgery and completed a year long distance education course in Dermatology through Sydney University in 2004. Stuart has been a Councillor of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists from 2002-2011 and served a two year term as President of the College. In 2011 he was presented with a Presidential Award for distinguished service to the College. Outside of work, Stuart enjoys sailing, scuba diving, water and snow skiing. Stuart is married to Jenny, an interior designer, with two grown up children, Lana (who is also a vet) and Isaac (a boat designer). They have a miniature Schnauzer (Denzel) and two Burmese cats (Ringo and Mick) as pets.
Mark Wiseman: Veterinarian, BSc, PhD, BVSc.
Mark switched careers from medical biochemistry to become a vet. Originally from Yorkshire in the UK he immigrated to NZ in 1989. Mark has worked at The Vet Centre since 2000 and became a shareholder in 2008. Early in his career Mark worked with both farm and companion animals including exotic species such as flamingos, iguanas and tortoises. Nowadays he works full time with pets. Mark has completed a course in advanced radiology and is called on by all our vets for opinions on X-rays. Marks other interests include mountain biking, motocross and kayaking.
Elizabeth Patterson-Green: Veterinarian, BVSc
Elizabeth graduated from Massey University in 2002 with a BVSc and initially started out working as a small animal veterinarian in Auckland. In 2005 she set off to see some of the world and spent several years working in the UK before settling in Marlborough. She has an equal interest in both medicine and surgical cases and has completed post-graduate study in veterinary oncology (cancer diagnosis and treatments), clinical pathology (preparation and interpretation of laboratory results), opthalmology (the study of eye diseases and surgery) and is working towards a masters of Veterinary Medicine. She has a soft spot for small fluffy creatures but is quite happy to tackle bigger pets like Great Danes when called for. When not at work she enjoys reading and trying to learn the guitar. She also dabbles in a little art and spent a summer in Florence painting landscapes in 2004. She and her husband have a tibetan Spaniel called Bella, Basil their new Australian Cattle dog and their elderly cat, Bruce, with an overactive thyroid gland who adopted them when they moved to Blenheim.
Jess came to The Vet Centre in 2002 after graduating from Nelson Polytech with her Certificate in Veterinary Nursing. Jess has a keen interest in Canine breeding and behaviour and has studied these at a diploma level in 2007. Jess has completed on-line courses in wound management and fluid therapy as well as attending vet nursing conferences. Outside of work Jess enjoys showing their three Bullmastifs, Bennett, Gracie and Marshall, and plans to use them in a future breeding programme.
Hayley Suurenbroek: Vet Nurse
Hayley is born and bred in Marlborough. She spent time with us as a student in 2014 whilst completing her National Certificate in Vet Nursing and we welcomed her as a permanent part of our team in June 2015.
Hayley has a clowder of cats at home and has just acquired a new puppy called Lexi.
Derryn Davidson: Vet Nurse
Derryn started working part-time at The Vet Centre in 2010 while completing her National Certificate in Vet Nursing through Otago Polytechnic. Originally from Manawatu she moved to Marlborough in 2001 with her family to enjoy the lifestyle it offers. She loves all animals but has a special interest in small mammals, birds and reptiles. Out of the clinic Derryn enjoys spending time with her family and 2 energetic Boxers.
Julie Hill: Vet Nurse
Julie is originally from south Canterbury. She graduated from Otago Polytech, and since then has worked at Orana Wildlife Park and Murdoch University in Western Australia in their emergency department and critical care unit. She lives in Blenheim with her husband, their two children, their dogs Maverick and Gibbs, and two beautiful Birmans Leo and Lilly.
Kathryn Musgrove: Vet Nurse
Kathryn is Marlborough born and spent most of her childhood living up the Awatere Valley. She has a passion for horses and animals. She spent 5 years overseas as a Polo Groomer before coming home and completing her Vet Nursing Certificate from Otago in 2004. Kathryn has worked locally as a Vet Nurse before family became the focus. She returned to nursing at The Vet Centre in 2012 and has become a value part of our Nursing and Reception Teams. Kathryn now lives with her family and collection of animals on a lifestyle block. Recently she has been competing in Dressage with her horse Dee.

In her spare time Kate enjoys exercising, creating art and spending time with friends and family. She has two cats, a very vocal tabby called Shelby and a beautiful black and white cat called Spaggles.
